Latest Recruitment Trends: Real Talk from My Global Keynote Tour
TL;DR
I’m fresh off the plane from delivering keynotes at NPAworldwide in the US and the TEAM Network Annual Conference in the UK, here’s what you need to know about the latest recruitment trends in 2025:
🔹 AI is officially everywhere—but most recruiters are still just dabbling in the free version of ChatGPT
🔹 Company Budgets are tighter than my jeans after too many hotel buffet breakfasts 🍞
🔹 Human connection is still your sharpest tool
🔹 Community building through niche specialisation is the future of recruitment
Grab your coffee ☕ or wine 🍷, and let’s get into the real talk!
🌍 Across the Pond: Conferences and Conversations on Latest Recruitment Trends
After a whirlwind trip to the NPAworldwide Conference in the US, and the TEAM Network Annual Conference in the UK, I came home buzzing with ideas and desperately needed a salad, some beach time and a good night’s sleep in my own bed. 😅
Here’s the truth: no matter the country, the job titles, or the sectors, recruiters are facing the same big shifts. From AI panic to hiring freezes to the ever-important human connection—we’ve got a lot on our plates in 2025, and there is a definite feeling of ‘overwhelm’ at the moment.
1️⃣ The AI Evolution: Key Trend in Latest Recruitment Practices 🤖
Let’s kick off with the hot one—AI. It’s not just a buzzword anymore; it’s in the bloodstream of recruitment, and every other industry, for that matter.
From my sessions and countless chats in the coffee/bathroom queues, this came up again and again:
🔸 95% of recruiters have started experimenting with AI tools – I was very pleased to see that very few people told me that they were too scared to have tried anything in the AI realm yet!
🔸 ChatGPT is the favourite go-to for generating job ads, interview guides, and the odd cheeky LinkedIn post & email
🔸 But actual recruitment-specific AI tools? These are not nearly as widespread as there is nervousness about making the wrong purchase
So what’s the hold-up?
💸 Cost—SaaS fatigue is real, and many recruiters are cautious, especially those who are paying a fortune for LIR and feel like they are tied in FOREVER to long contracts
🌀 Tool overload—There are so many AI platforms, it’s hard to know which ones are legit
📚 Lack of know-how—Most people are winging it with minimal training on the tools and getting frustrated when the tools don’t do exactly what they need them to do
Latest Recruitment Trend Takeaway: AI is here to stay, but we must move from “dabbling” to deliberate use. Recruiters who invest time in learning how to use these tools more effectively (and not just relying on ChatGPT to write emails) are going to stand out.
💡 Try this: Commit to testing one new AI tool per month, or even better, every fortnight. Create a simple rating system—cost, ease, outcome—and share your findings with your team. Let’s learn together.
2️⃣ Budget Squeeze: Economic Pressures Shaping the Latest Recruitment Trends 💸
Let’s talk money—or lack thereof.
Across both sides of the Atlantic, recruiters shared the same frustration:
📉 Hiring freezes are widespread, and there seem to be new rounds of layoffs every day in the US
🔁 TA teams are being folded into general HR roles, so there is a lack of continuity with relationships in this space
📦 Redundancies and restructuring are impacting everyone and are causing a lot of ‘unease’ in this industry
Someone at TEAM said to me:
“We’ve gone from a team of five to just me and my Google Sheets. And a lot of caffeine!”
This is the not-so-glamorous reality of 2025. Even companies that want to grow can’t always justify expanding teams right now.
Latest Recruitment Trend Takeaway: In lean times, resourceful recruiters win. This means:
✅ Building genuine relationships with clients – this includes existing clients and new clients
✅ Streamlining processes and leaning into automation where it makes sense
✅ Focusing on quality of hire, not just speed
This is your chance to prove your value beyond “filling roles.” You must strive to become the trusted advisor your clients can’t afford to lose.
3️⃣ Don’t Automate Yourself Out of a Job: Human-Centric Hiring in 2025 🧠❤️
Look, I love a clever tool as much as the next sourcing nerd, but here’s the thing: people work with people.
And in this AI boom, we’re losing sight of what makes us valuable. These are these sins recruiters are (still) committing far too regularly:
🚫 Ghosting candidates
🚫 Using cold, templated outreach with zero personalisation
🚫 Treating clients like transactions
We know better than this. We have to do better.
✨ Your energy, empathy, and EQ are your superpowers.
✨ A well-timed call trumps a fancy chatbot message.
✨ A genuine “How are you doing?” message creates loyalty.
Latest Recruitment Trend Takeaway: Keep your humanity front and centre. Automate admin, not authenticity. In 2025, human-led hiring is your edge.
📞 Call one candidate, and/or client, today that you haven’t spoken to in a while. No agenda. Just connection.
4️⃣ Niche is the New Normal: Community Building in Latest Recruitment Trends 👥
This is where it gets exciting. One of the most powerful recruitment trends I’m seeing is the rise of niche recruiters.
Generalists are struggling. Specialists are thriving. Why?
💬 People trust recruiters who speak their language
👀 Candidates want to be part of something tailored and meaningful
📣 Communities amplify your visibility, referrals, and reach
Here’s how to build one:
🔹 Host industry-specific roundtables or webinars. Invite Guest Speakers who want to give back to their Industry.
🔹 Create private groups or communities for your niche. There are loads of platforms for these at the moment, from Facebook to Heartbeat/Circle.
🔹 Share real content—market insights, salary guides, career stories to stand out as the Go-To Recruiter in your Niche. You must stay Tip of Tongue and Top of Mind.
Latest Recruitment Trend Takeaway: In a world full of noise, owning your niche gives you clarity, credibility, and community. Pick your lane. Go deep.
🎤 Final Thoughts on the Latest Recruitment Trends
After meeting hundreds of recruiters across two continents, I’ve never been more certain: our industry is evolving faster than ever, and that’s a good thing.
But change doesn’t mean panic. It means:
🔍 Getting curious
🛠 Levelling up with the right tools
🧠 Reconnecting with what makes us human
We don’t know what we don’t know—but that’s the fun part. Let’s learn together.
As for me? Thanks to the long Easter weekend, I’ve finally managed to unpack my suitcase and detox from hotel buffet life. 🧳🥐
