6 Ways to Get the Most Out of ChatGPT Plus
So, you’ve finally upgraded to a paid ChatGPT Plus subscription. I bet you finally buckled and paid for it as you were getting frustrated with running out of prompts? Right? 😉 Maybe you’re using it to tidy up your LinkedIn posts or spitball subject lines for your next outbound campaign. Handy, sure… but are you really getting your money’s worth?
Let’s be honest. If you’re still prompting it like a smarter Google, you’re only scratching the surface. The real power comes when you stop treating ChatGPT like a quick tool and start using it like a personal assistant who understands your tone, your clients, and your way of working.
In this post, I’ll walk you through six ways to do exactly that. These tips stem from a recent training session with a solo recruiter I’ve been doing 1-2-1 AI Coaching with in the US. She’s now using ChatGPT Plus to smooth her workflow, sound more like herself online, and spend far less time on time-consuming admin.
⚡ TL;DR 6 Ways to Unlock ChatGPT Plus
🎙️ Speak your prompts for faster, richer outputs
✍️ Build a custom GPT in your tone
🧠 Train it like an assistant (not just a search engine)
📁 Use Projects to store documents and context
🔍 Use browsing to run Deep Research
💬 Create a GPT just for your LinkedIn messages
🎙️ Use Your Voice to Prompt
Typing is slow. You speak faster than you type, and when you talk, your prompts are more natural and nuanced. ChatGPT Plus has a microphone icon 🎙️ in the text input box. Use it.
When this recruiter switched to voice prompts, her outputs instantly sounded more like her. Why? Because she explained things the way she actually speaks. She also provides more context, as it comes naturally for Recruiters to be more chatty and less frugal with their word count when typing prompts – sound familiar? 😉
She now says things like:
“Write a LinkedIn post about how tough cybersecurity roles are to fill right now. Make it personal, a little cheeky, and end with a question or call to action.”
That’s a full thought, not a robotic command. Rich input equals better output.
✍️ Build Your “Master Voice” GPT
If ChatGPT’s outputs still feel a bit bland, it’s because the model doesn’t know your style. Not yet.
The fix is to create a custom GPT trained on your tone. I call this your Master Voice GPT.
Here’s what the recruiter I trained did:
- Created a custom GPT
- Uploaded her top-performing LinkedIn posts, blogs, newsletters and emails
- Added clear dos and don’ts (like banned phrases or tone notes)
- Kept improving it with better examples every week
Custom GPTs don’t automatically learn over time, so she regularly adds new examples to keep it sharp.
Now, anything she writes sounds closer to her voice, from the outset and takes far less editing. Win-win situation IMHO 🏆.
🧠 Train It Like an Assistant
Don’t just tweak ChatGPT’s outputs. Please correct them. Guide it. Treat it like a junior teammate who’s eager to learn.
One of the best questions the recruiter should ask their custom GPT after electing to ‘Edit GPT’ is the following:
“What do you need from me to write emails that sound more like me?”
She then answers in her own voice and supplies improved examples. The model adapts instantly in that conversation. Remember to update (black button in the top right-hand corner) after each training session with your custom GPT.
To keep the standards high for future use, she copies those examples into her Master Voice GPT’s settings. That’s how you cut editing time over the long run.
Also, don’t forget your Personalisation settings:
→ Go to Settings > Personalisation
→ Add your role, tone, industry focus, and writing preferences.
It sharpens every response. 🔪
📁 Use Projects to Store Context
Projects are ChatGPT’s version of folders, and they’re a total game-changer. Think of your projects as your knowledge base, where custom GPTs are your content generators.
Instead of pasting the same info into every prompt, create a Project for each client, role, or campaign and upload:
- Intake notes
- Job specs
- Candidate write-ups
- Policy docs or templates
Now you can say:
“Using the onboarding pack in this project, write a short post that explains the key benefits of choosing us to partner with.”
ChatGPT will reference the files that you have uploaded to that Project. No repeating yourself.
The recruiter now uses Projects for retainers, key accounts, workshops, and even her own internal systems. It’s saving her hours.
🔍 Let ChatGPT Do Your Research
With ChatGPT Plus, you’ve got access to browsing and Deep Research. You can now outsource research tasks like:
- Spotting niche trends
- Finding companies hiring
- Tracking upcoming events
- Building business development lists
- Exploring new tech or tools
Here’s one prompt the recruiter uses:
“You’re a recruiter in the Tampa area. Search for electronic device companies currently hiring. Create a table with company name, roles, person in charge of the hiring and careers page URL. Ask me any questions before you begin to ensure that you understand the task.”
That last line is crucial. Always ask ChatGPT to clarify before it gets going. It avoids wrong assumptions and saves time.
💬 Create a GPT for Your LinkedIn DMs
If you’re sending 10 or more similar DMs a day, stop copying and pasting. Build a DM-specific GPT instead.
The recruiter I trained created one called LinkedIn DMs – [Her Name]. It:
- Writes in her tone
- Includes her calendar link automatically
- Avoids the buzzwords she can’t stand
Now she just types:
“Write a follow-up to someone who didn’t reply last week. Friendly, clear, and short.”
Done. Same tone. Same link. Zero typos.
💡 Example: Putting It All Together
Say you’re sourcing for a new Data Engineering role in Cape Town.
Here’s how you could work smarter with ChatGPT Plus:
- Use voice to summarise the job spec into three bullets
- Save everything into a Project called “Cape Town | Data Engineer”
- Ask your Master Voice GPT to write your outreach emails
- Use your LinkedIn GPT to handle follow-ups
- Run a Deep Research chat to find companies hiring similar roles
This is the difference between using ChatGPT as a shortcut and using it as structured delegation.
⚠️ Pitfalls to Avoid
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| Vague prompts | Be specific about audience, tone, and purpose |
| Forgetting to train your custom GPTs | Add corrected examples to your custom GPT weekly |
| Repeating info in your prompts | Use Projects to store key documents, including notes from your meetings |
| Using one GPT for everything | Create dedicated GPTs for writing, DMs, and research |
| Only typing | Use voice for better prompts and faster outputs |
❓ FAQs
1. Can I upload client documents into ChatGPT?
Yes, as long as you have permission. Anonymise where needed and stick to general info if unsure.
2. What’s the difference between ChatGPT and custom GPTs?
ChatGPT is general-purpose. Custom GPTs are tailored to your tone, tasks, and examples.
3. How do I make a custom GPT?
Go to Explore GPTs, click Create, and follow the steps. No coding needed.
4. Can I build more than one GPT?
Absolutely. Use different ones for writing, DMs, BD, or even a client-specific tone.
5. Is dictation really better?
Yes. Your spoken prompts carry more detail, leading to better outputs.
6. How often should I update my Master Voice GPT?
Any time your style evolves or you create a stronger example.
7. Can ChatGPT help me find new clients?
Definitely. Use Deep Research to find job ads, funding rounds, and hiring signals.
8. Is this just for recruiters?
Not at all. Anyone who writes, builds lists, or handles clients will benefit.
